My take, there is this bizarre cognitive dissonance going in both parties, a huge gap between their respective strategies going into the midterm and 2024 elections.
The red team- still largely dominated by Trump- simply doesn't recognize that voters no longer care about 2020. Just as the blues don't recognize how no one cares about Jan 6. Both sides ignoring voters' anger over real life issues. Grand Canyon blind spots, both sides.
Rising costs and crime seem to be the real top issues at ground zero, and the perpetually befuddled Republicans especially seem confused about what to focus on. Trump is a devastating distraction, and it's only worse for the party's momentum that everyone so dislikes him.
Unfortunately, the toothless Republicans have no fight without Trump. He showed them how, and they've already forgotten by now. What a conflicted, no clear win situation for conservative voters.
